Does anyone know if the temperature light on my JD 950 is supposed to light up when the ignition key is turned to start? The oil and alt. lights light up, but the temp. light does not. All lights do turn off once the engine starts.

Tom, what you are saying seems to match what my tractor has. I still have not been able to free up the stop/diverter valve. One other thing that has started to happen since I hooked up my new bush hog and began running it is a hydraulic fluid leak. I traced it to a small hole located on the front of my bucket level control valve cylinders. The hole is centered on a cap held in place by four allen bolts. Any idea what this is? A relief valve? Why it may be leaking?

I want to thank everyone for all the useful info. I've had a chance to start "working" the tractor and going over everything. So far, I've added Rislone to the oil, injector cleaner to the fuel, cleaned the fuel filter bowl and filled the tank with fresh fuel. I've run the tractor for about 2 hours and it seems like it is smoking a little less. I still have to change all the filters and oil. It runs great, I think I just need to keep working it under load and finish changing filters, etc., along with check out all the things you guys have suggested. Thanks again!
